I had the privilege of working closely with an exceptional group of students and educators from 10 different countries at KEA – Copenhagen School of Design and Technology in Copenhagen, Denmark, exploring the question “What is sustainable?” in collaboration with advisors and local businesses in Copenhagen.
A week of brainstorming, learning, networking, building, creating, experiencing setbacks, bouncing back, unlearning, relearning, and everything in between; a true journey of growth and innovation.
“Transformative” is the word used by our Humber students to describe the experience!
Nine Humber students traveled to Copenhagen, the vibrant capital of Denmark, to participate in this year’s Charrette at KEA, held from October 5-12. Working in multidisciplinary teams with students from 10 different countries, they combined their diverse knowledge and experiences to tackle the question, “What is sustainable?” Together, they developed concepts to support 5 local Copenhagen businesses. The week kicked off with inspirational talks and presentations on sustainability, introductions to the local collaborators, the project brief, and the New European Bauhaus Compass. Activities included advisor sessions and workshops to support the Charrette work, culminating in final presentations and a grand celebration!
Multidisciplinary Collaboration
This opportunity emphasized the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration and global perspectives in tackling complex questions like “What is sustainable?” Working alongside students and educators from 10 different countries, our Humber students learned to approach sustainability from diverse cultural and professional lenses, which broadened their critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
The focus on sustainability, creative problem-solving, and collaboration aligns perfectly with the skills needed in today’s job market, equipping our students with a strong foundation for success.
