AI in Tourism, Storytelling, and Podcasting
This semester, we had the pleasure of welcoming Alex Sein, the @beardedprof416 and tourism expert to our BUS 1500 Business Information Systems class for an engaging session on the power of storytelling in podcasting, a key skill as we prepare to produce podcasts for our clients: students of the Hospitality and Tourism Operations Management Grad Certificate program. This project is an interdisciplinary collaboration between two courses at the Longo Faculty of Business:
- BUS 1500 Business Information Systems, taught by Hanadi Alnawab to Bachelor of Commerce degree students
- HTOM 5508 Trends in Tourism and Hospitality, taught by Anke Foller-Carroll to students of the Hospitality and Tourism Operations Management Grad Certificate program
Trends in Tourism
With the support of AI, these collaborative podcasts will delve into five exciting themes, which will be hosted on our podcast network, DigiPod.ca
- Nostalgia Tourism
- Culinary Tourism
- Concert and Music Tourism
- Sports Tourism (spectator sports)
- Winter Tourism
Key Takeaways for an Effective Podcast
🎙 Start with a Story – The best podcasts connect through compelling, relatable narratives.
🎯 End with a Call to Action – Every episode should leave listeners with something to think about or act on.
📢 Make Every Moment Count – Engaging content keeps audiences invested from start to finish.
Alex’s insights into tourism, AI, storytelling, and effective podcasting will help our students as they work on their group projects, creating engaging podcasts that address the latest trends in tourism and hospitality. We’re excited to bring these ideas to life and support our tourism partners in crafting podcasts that inform and inspire!
A huge thank you to Alex for sharing your time and expertise with us!
