This semester, students of DIGI 3502 Database Systems had the exciting opportunity to collaborate with Humber Libraries to develop a database for the Fashion History Museum, a project that aims to preserve and showcase the history of fashion through personal objects and stories told by students of the FASH 3000 – 20th Century Fashion History course in a database accessible via AtoM on Humber Archives.
Intro to AtoM through Humber Archives
During a hands-on session facilitated by Humber Librarian Caleb Domsy and Library Technician Shernett Bennett, students learned how to enter, manage, and organize fashion history data using AtoM (Access to Memory), an archival description software that is part of the Humber Archives. The session provided the class with valuable real-world experience in managing and organizing data within a professional archival system, a skill that compliments their database knowledge.
A Seamless Integration of Fashion and Technology
The Fashion History Project is a dynamic collaboration between the Fashion Management BComm program, the Digital Business Management BComm program, and the Humber & University of Guelph-Humber Library at Humber Polytechnic.
Digital Business Management students have been working closely with the Fashion Management students, contributing to the collection and cataloging of fashion artifacts, documents, and records. The collaboration of both programs with Humber Libraries is a perfect example of how cross-disciplinary teamwork can enhance student learning and contribute to important projects.
